CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA
PREAMBLE
Our Korean people, shining in their long history and tradition, inherit the laws of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea established by the March 1st Movement and the April 19th Democratic Revolution Movement ideology that resisted injustice. Based on the mission of democratic reform and peaceful reunification of the country, we will solidify the unity of the nation through justice, humanitarianism, and fraternity. It will destroy all social evils and injustices, and further solidify the basic order of liberal democracy based on autonomy and harmony. Equal opportunities for each individual in all fields of politics, economy, society and culture, enable them to maximize their abilities, and fulfill their responsibilities and obligations accompanying freedom and rights. Domestically, it contributes to the equitable improvement of people's lives, and overseas, it contributes to permanent world peace and co-prosperity of mankind. The Constitution, which was enacted on July 12, 1948 and revised eight times, is now amended by a referendum through the resolution of the National Assembly, with the pledge to ensure the safety, freedom and happiness of us and our descendants forever.
