(Coronavirus disease-19, COVID-19)는 2019년 중국에서 확인된 2019년 신종 코로나바이러스 (SARS-CoV-2)에 의해 발병하는 폐렴이다.

이전의 바이러스들과는 다른 강력한 전염성과, 빠른 증상 악화등 기존의 코로나바이러스 유행에 비해 심각하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 일단 코로나 바이러스라고 아무 증상 없이 그냥 지나가거나, 평범한 감기 수준으로 끝나는 경우가 있어 환자 격리 등의 대응이 매우 어려운 상태.
